Skincare Treatments with Geria Dermatology: HydraFacial, Microneedling & Dermaplaning

Traditionally skincare has NOT been my thing. I’m as low maintenance as it gets when it comes to skincare, but when Mukti from Geria Dermatology reached out to me about trying some of their popular facials, I couldn’t resist. And the results were AMAZING! My skin feels healthier, and glowier (?) than ever, AND it even inspired me to take better care of my skin!

I’ve made three trips to Geria Dermatology so far and have tried two out of three of their most popular treatments: HydraFacial and dermaplaning. I haven’t had a chance to try microneedling yet, but it’s definitely on my list. Here I break all of three of them down for you so you can decide if any of these facials will work for you!

Geria Dermatology has also offered 15% off for my friends and family, so definitely let them know I sent you to take advantage of my special discount!

  1. Hydrafacial

Main Benefits: extracts and cleans pores, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, tightens and brightens skin, evens skin tone, and reduces enlarged pores

How It Works: The main function of the HydraFacial is to clean, extract and hydrate your skin. The hydrafacial is broken up into 3 steps: clean + peel, extract + hydrate, fuse + protect. The first step uncovers a new layer of your skin with gentle exfoliation and resurfacing. This step uses a serum to remove a layer of dead skin cells to reveal a layer of healthy skin. It also delivers all the benefits of a chemical peel without the post-peel flaking. The second step uses a painless suction tool to remove debris from your pores that are clogged with oil and dead skin, and then nourishes with intense moisturizers that quench your skin. The last step fills your clean, extracted pores with amino acids, peptides and anti-oxidants to shrink your pores that have expanded over time and maximize your glow!

Why the HydraFacial: It cleanses at a deeper level than microdermabrasion treatments and is less painful. And it’s more effective on darker skin tones than traditional chemical peels.

Frequency: You’ll see results immediately, but for best results you should get a HydraFacial once every month or two months.

Cost: $200 at Geria Dermatology or 6-facial package for $1000

  2. Microneedling

Main Benefits: treats acne scarring, fine lines, wrinkles, loose skin, skin texture, pore size, brown spots, stretch marks, and pigment issues.

How It Works: Microneedling — or the vampire facial — was made popular back in 2013 by Kim K. It’s a procedure that uses fine needles to puncture the skin and create a controlled skin injury in order to rejuvenate skin. The concept behind microneedling is that the injury caused by the needles triggers a response in your body to send healing agents like collagen to the skin punctures to repair them. It essentially uses your own blood to promote healthy activity in your skin cells.

Why Microneedling: Less risks than chemical peels and laser therapies, one of the most effective treatments for acne scarring. But it also causes redness and flaking in the days immediately after the procedure, so be prepared to stay in and recover for a day or two!

Frequency: You’ll see results within a few days, but for optimal results it’s best to get multiple treatments spaced at least one month apart. With multiple treatments, over time your dermatologist will able to penetrate the skin deeper and lead to a drastic increase in collagen and elastin levels in the skin.

Cost: Upwards of $1000 per treatment

3. Dermaplaning

Main Benefits
: Dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment that removes the dead skin and peach fuzz from your face with a scalpel. It makes your skin visibly brighter as it removes a lot of the dead skin cells, and allows your skin to allow product/makeup significantly better.

How It Works: During a dermaplaning session, the dermatologist or esthetician uses a medical-grade scalpel to scrape across the surface of the skin. You’ll be able to see all the peach fuzz that comes out of your face. You can follow up your dermaplaning session with a SkinCeuticals protocol or a HyrdaFacial for optimal results!

Frequency: Once a month! Honestly once you get one, you’ll want to keep doing it. You’ll need to use less makeup and product to get the results you want so it pretty much pays for itself!

Cost: Dermaplaning is $200 with SkinCeuticals protocol or $250 with the HydraFacial at Geria Dermatoloogy

If you have any questions about these procedures, definitely do not hesitate to reach out to me or Mukti from Geria Dermatology! You can also check out the skincare section in my highlights for a more up close look at how these procedures are done.
