Mumbai Street Shopping: Where to Find Trendy Outfits and Local Treasures
/Mumbai is a paradise for any self-proclaimed shopaholic. I honestly think some of my favorite purchases have been from street markets in Mumbai, and with some expert negotiating, you really can’t beat the prices. (Personally, I do my best haggling in Hindi after a cocktail — but that’s my little secret) If y’all are ready to brave the chaos and bustle of Mumbai’s street markets, I’ve got you on where to go!
Colaba Causeway (Colaba)
One of the most famous street shopping spots in Mumbai, Colaba Causeway is a vibrant market where you can shop to your heart’s content. Known for its wide range of items including clothes, bags, jewelry, and antiques, this street is perfect for those looking for souvenirs and unique finds. The market also offers a variety of bohemian-inspired clothing and accessories, making it a go-to for those seeking a laid-back, artsy vibe. Go to the McDonalds in Colaba, and start shopping in the alleyway directly under it. My bag guy has the best deals on some of the most stunning bags you’ll ever see! I also love shopping for antique silver and gold jewelry here, especially anklets, clip on nose-pieces, and kamarbandhs.
Pro Tip: If you’re a fan of antiques, Colaba Causeway has a fantastic collection of old-school knick-knacks, vintage jewelry, and curios that make great souvenirs.
Hill Road (Bandra)
If you're in the mood to indulge in some retail therapy with a local touch, Hill Road in Bandra is where you'll find an eclectic mix of fashion, accessories, and more. Lined with rows of stalls and boutique shops, this lively street offers everything from trendy outfits to ethnic wear. You can pick up chic dresses, stylish handbags, footwear, jewelry, and much more at prices that won’t break the bank. For the fashion-forward, Hill Road is an absolute must-visit! My favorite thing about Hill Road is that I’ll start off wearing a very basic outfit and end up having a completely different look by the time I’ve finished walking through the street. I’ll pick up a pair of trendy sunglasses, some statement jewelry, a button up, and end with a whole new fit! And truly, some of the best prices you’ll find!
Linking Road (Bandra)
Not far from from Hill Road is Linking Road, another street shopping gem located in Bandra. This bustling street is a shopping haven for those looking for a fusion of traditional and contemporary styles. You’ll find an array of clothing, shoes, jewelry, and accessories at affordable prices. From trendy Western wear to classic Indian kurtas, there’s something for every style and budget.
Pro Tip: Don't forget to explore the footwear section for some seriously stylish yet budget-friendly shoes!
Crawford Market (Masjid Bunder)
Crawford Market is an iconic Mumbai street market that’s a must-visit for any avid shopper. While it’s famous for its wholesale fruit and vegetable market, it also houses several shops selling spices, dry fruits, pets, flowers, and more. If you’re into quirky items or looking for unique gifts, head to the colorful alleys of Crawford Market to explore an extensive collection of goods, from decorative items to wooden artifacts. I also love looking for fabric to design my own Indian clothes here!
